Changing Gears Trip Log

This is Paula Tomlinson's trip log for the 2005 US leg of the Changing Gears Harley ride.

Tuesday, September 20

Packing up and leaving Grants Pass (and sweeping for dog hair) took a while, but we're starting to get a routine. The dogs are figuring out what's expected of them, so they mostly don't go nuts until they realize we're going into the hotel.

It was a long and mostly uneventful drive through the dry country. We amused ourselves by trying to guess what the crops were in the fields we drove by. Olive trees, we think. The dogs sack out immediately in the truck and make few demands on us.

There was a thunderstorm moving through just as we were arriving in the Bay Area, but there was not too much rain to deal with, and it stopped by the time we needed to unload the dogs.

The Fremont La Quinta featured some of the lowest-flow shower heads in the country. Not so much a shower as a gentle mist of... humidity. The hotel also featured cancer-causing chemicals (see picture) at no extra cost!

Tomorrow, we go our separate ways, as Paula hooks up with the Changing Gears riders at the LAX Westin, while Ron and the pack go on to the La Quinta in La Palma.
