Changing Gears Trip LogThis is Paula Tomlinson's trip log for the 2005 US leg of the Changing Gears Harley ride. Monday, September 19After a Herculean packing effort, we finally got on the road around noon, with all three dogs in tow. The trip broke into about three equal legs, each ending at a La Quinta, which is important since they take pets with no hassle and no extra charge. Even getting started late, it was not too hard a drive. We stopped at rest stops frequently, and had dinner in Creswell, Oregon at T.J's Restaurant and Lounge. Decent BBQ chicken and decent stir-fry. We finally arrived at Grant's Pass around 8:30pm and the GPS took us right to the front door with no hassles. The GPS (Paula's birthday present) has been invaluable at finding Chevron's close to the highway, locating rest stops, and shouting which lane we need to be in within 300 feet through its tinny little speaker. The Sirius satellite radio (Ron's birthday present), kept us supplied with tunes, news, weather, and (for Paula) football scores. Alas, despite the promised "no commercials", there seems to be a surprising amount of people talking and trying to sell things. On the other hand, it does offer live traffic reports for Los Angeles and San Francisco, which might yet prove useful on this trip. |
